The Fruit is a 22,000 sf warehouse for the arts in downtown Durham. The name comes from 100 years back when it was Durham Fruit & Produce Co. The Fruit runs as a social enterprise, providing an affordable, inclusive place to make and show a wide variety of art. It contains a black box theater, numerous photo/video sets, an art gallery, and a flex space for festivals, performances, and markets. It’s akin to gritty, artist-run spaces in Berlin and Brooklyn. The Fruit is recognized as "Best Place to Dance” in the Triangle and was just named by Billboard Magazine as a top-five venue in the US for advancing women/femmes in electronic music.
