Law & ArtWorks

Law & ArtWorks is a group of lawyers who care about the Triangle’s arts community and are working to determine the unmet legal needs of this community and to serve these needs.  The lawyers work with the community to conduct monthly practical legal workshops and generally serve as a Legal Resource Group for the Triangle arts business community. Online educational videos are in the works; sign up for the mailing list to be the first to know.

Law & ArtWorks Programs:

Legal Workshops and Practicums– Law & ArtWorks upholds the mission of Triangle Artworks by educating artists and arts organizations in various aspects of the law relevant to art and business. Throughout the year, Law & ArtWorks hosts workshops on topics ranging from Fair Use and contracts to estate planning and taxes.  At these workshops, attendees gain valuable practical experience that allows them to apply skills and knowledge directly to their art business.  While Law & ArtWorks presents its own regular programs, it also partners with regional discipline groups in area such as film, dance and photography, on some monthly programs.

Does your arts organization or arts business have a general legal issue it needs to understand? Law & ArtWorks can also help you find a local lawyer to lead a workshop for your group or business on any topic. Just contact us!

Legal Resource for Triangle Artists & Arts Organizations – Law & ArtWorks oversees the Legal Resources of the Triangle ArtWorks website, which provides artists with resources on legal issues relevant to artists and their businesses. Law & ArtWorks is also providing legal info videos on ArtSwell TV.  Although Law & ArtWorks cannot provide direct legal representation or answer questions about individual legal issues, we can connect you to an attorney who can help.  If you need a speaker for your group on a legal issue, or have a general question about a broad issue affecting Triangle artists, contact us

Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts – Law & ArtWorks is in the beginning stages of exploring how to create a volunteer lawyers for the arts program in the Triangle. We are researching community needs and available resources, as well as talking to possible partners in this effort.  Have some information that can help this process? Want to join the effort? Let us know.
