Triangle Artworks at the Southwest Virginia Artisan Conference

On April 25th, our team will be heading to the Southwest Virginia Artisan Conference of the ‘Round the Mountain Artists Network in Abingdon, Virginia. This in-person conference is centered around networking, hands-on workshops, and meaningful connections for artists who live and work in Southwestern Virginia. TAW certified REAL Craft trainers and Arts Entrepreneurship presenters Tiffany Coley and Cynthia Deis will be offering “From Craft Hobby to Business” to participants of the conference.

In addition to the conference days, there are 4 other training sessions that will be presented at locations around Southwestern Virginia. Starting in March and continuing through June, Tiffany Coley, Jackie Sanders, Cynthia Deis and Jennifer Reis will offer focused in-person courses on Pricing, Digital Content Creation, Wholesale Sales and Strategic Planning.

Below is the full program schedule:

March 18 – Profit is Not A Dirty Word
6 - 8 p.m. | Rural Retreat Train Depot
Cost is $10 for 'Round the Mountain artisans | $25 other participants

Price your work to make a profit - whether you are a full-time or part-time artist. Participants will discuss the details of a profit-driven pricing strategy for artists. This course will be taught by Tiffany Coley.

April 9 – Digital Content Creation for Artists
6 - 8 p.m. | Big Stone Gap Visitor Center
Cost is $10 for 'Round the Mountain artisans | $25 other participants

You need to promote your work with images and words, but making digital content can steal time from your actual work. In this class, you will learn the content creation strategy that has worked for hundreds of small-business owners. This course will be taught by Jackie Sanders.

April 26 – From Craft Hobby to Business
1 - 5 p.m. | Southwest Virginia Cultural Center & Marketplace
This event is additionally a pre-event add-on to the Southwest Virginia Artisan Conference
Cost is $30

Participants will be guided through discussions and activities that will help them to full understand the steps for moving a craft or art practice from the hobby level to a profitable business. Some of the topics address will include: pricing for a profit, how to raise your prices, how to set show sales goals, and marketing on a budget.  This course will be taught by Cynthia Deis and Tiffany Coley.

May 14 – Selling in a Big Way: Wholesale and Bulk Sales for Artists
6 - 8 p.m. | Floyd Center for the Arts
Cost is $10 for 'Round the Mountain artisans | $25 other participants

Many craftspeople wonder if selling their work to wholesale customers is the way to success. If you are curious about the ways that wholesale sales can transform your art business, this class will help you explore the idea of business strategies. This class is ideal for artists who want to sell thier work in ways that do not involve direct customers interactions, individual shipments and in-person shows, or who are curious about scaling up and adding wholesale to their business. This course will be taught by Cynthia Deis and Tiffany Coley.

June 3 – Putting All Your Ducks in a Row: Strategic Planning for Artists
6 - 8 p.m. | Wayne C. Henderson School of the Appalachian Arts
Cost is $10 for 'Round the Mountain artisans | $25 other participants

Don't just give your story away – make it part of your marketing and branding strategy. This training will help determine artistic and business goals, as well as thinking about a brand focus. This course will be taught by Jennifer Reis.

In addition to 'Round the Mountain, these training sessions are supported by the Appalachian Regional Commission, Virginia Commission for the Arts, Virginia Humanities, Friends of Southwest Virginia, and Virginia Tourism Corporation.
